User Pages & Parameter Docks

The built-in pages provide a device-centric view of a drive.web system. It is often desirable to have pages that are oriented toward the machine or the process. There are two ways to accomplish this:

Parameter Docks

You can create user-defined pages or "Docks" as needed by one of the three methods described below.
Note to Mac OS X users: these docks are distinct from the system dock (although similar conceptually).

Docks: Drag and Drop

You can drag a parameter from a built-in page and drop it into a new viewer.

Docks: Contextual Menu

Pick the 'Add to Parameter Dock' item from a parameter's contextual menu (if no dock is open, a new one will be created; if there is more than one dock open, you can choose the one you want from the hierarchical menu). The parameter will be added to the dock in a location determined by software; you can drag it to a better location, if you desire.

Docks: Copy and Paste

Pick the 'Copy' item from a parameter's contextual menu and then bring the dock you want to use to the front and press control-V (command-V on a Mac). As above, the parameter will be added to the dock in a location determined by software; you can drag it to a better location, if you desire.

Trend Charts

Docks can be viewed in the normal "Parameter Mode" or in "Trend Mode"; switching between the two modes is accomplished via the 'Dock' menu. While in "Parameter Mode", selecting 'Show Trend' will switch the dock into "Trend Mode"; similarly, while in "Trend Mode", selecting 'Show Parameters' will switch the dock into "Parameter Mode".

The rest of this section assumes you are in "Trend Mode", which presents the parameters on a trend chart with time on the X axis and the parameter value on the Y axis. Up to seven parameters may be displayed (if there are more parameters in the dock, only the first seven parameters will be shown).

When you move the mouse over the trend chart, information is displayed in the status bar. The time is shown and, if you move the mouse close to trend line, the parameter name and value for that trend line. You can pick 'Show Trend Point Info' from the dock's contextual menu to get information on all the parameters for that point in time.

You can set the time span for the trend chart from the menu. The chart continuously updates unless you select the 'Hold' menu item. You can zoom and pan the chart as needed.

Note that the effective sample rate for a parameter is affected by how many parameters in the device are being polled. Closing other windows and reducing the number of parameters in the dock may increase the effective sample rate.
